About the Area Initiative Project

The 2026 Area Initiative Project is a structured, community-focused effort designed to proactively strengthen neighborhood safety through collaboration with residents.

Each of Casper’s six geographic areas is assigned a Casper Police lieutenant or a pair of sergeants who take a focused, hands-on approach to understanding local safety conditions. These commanders work directly with residents, patrol officers, and community partners to identify concerns and implement practical, area-specific solutions.

First quarter meetings, held in January 2026, provided residents with crime and activity data specific to their area and offered an opportunity for open dialogue with officers.

During the second quarter meetings, community members will receive updates on the safety improvement project or projects developed for their area. Officers will outline project goals, progress, and next steps, while engaging residents in discussion about how to work together to improve neighborhood safety.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the project’s e-mail list to receive direct communication on projects and meetings. Please use the link below to provide your contact information:

Casper is widely recognized as a safe and strong community. This project is part of CPD’s continued effort to be forward-thinking and intentional in preserving that standard for the future. By creating structured opportunities for engagement, the department aims to ensure neighborhood voices help shape how public safety efforts are prioritized and delivered.

The Area Initiative Project is structured as a 12-month effort in each area. Residents can expect quarterly meetings that begin with listening and collaboration, followed by project development, progress updates, and a review of outcomes. This approach allows CPD and residents to work together over time toward meaningful, lasting improvements.

As part of the Area Initiative Project, CPD will:
- Share area-specific public safety information to support informed discussions
- Work alongside residents to identify neighborhood safety priorities
- Develop one focused safety improvement effort per area
- Provide ongoing updates so residents can see progress and outcomes
- This approach allows the department to remain proactive, responsive, and accountable while focusing resources where they can have the greatest impact.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting that corresponds with the area in which they live or work.

“Our officers live and serve in this community, and they care deeply about protecting what makes Casper a great place to live,” said Chief of Police Shane Chaney. “The Area Initiative Project reflects our commitment to staying engaged, being proactive, and working together with residents to keep Casper safe for generations to come.”
