Read Genesis 1:26-31 again. What sticks out to you about this passage? Genesis 1 is dotted with God’s positive evaluation of creation: “it was good” - summed up in verse 31: “God saw all he had made, and it was very good.” How does this evaluation shape the way we look at our world? What do we learn about humanity from verses 26-30? About our responsibility? About our value to God?

Read Isaiah 9:6-7. What stands out to you? What does it mean “authority rests upon his shoulders” and does the translation “for the government will rest on His shoulders” shift the meaning for you? Reflect on the phrases of the Messiah’s name. What comes to mind with each one? How does the last phrase, “The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this” make a difference?

What connections do you see between the Genesis and Isaiah readings? What insight do you most remember from the Sunday sermon?
